I am a little behind, but here is Owen at 2 weeks. He actually almost a month old now, I can't believe it!

Owen is a pretty content newborn.

He is a very loud grunter in his sleep. This makes for some long sleepless nights, but we still love him:)

Eats pretty well.

Likes to be swaddled.

Not a huge fan of the binkie or a bottle so far. (we really need to work on the bottle taking, mommy is tired and to be completely honest I don't know how long nursing is going to last. (not a fan. 3 months is the goal...)

Sleeps about 4 hour stretch at night and then wakes up to eat.

Poops like a champ. Almost every time he eats.

Also spits up like a champ. Almost every time he eats.

We love this little guy! 

A diamond in the dirt

So...guess what was found the other day? 

Let me explain.

 About two years ago I lost my wedding ring. (yep, I'm awesome like that, and should win a "wife of the year award. Thanks)  Kyle says it has been even longer than that and I argue that "his time frame" is just to exaggerate the story.  Nonetheless, I misplaced it and I say "misplaced" because I was 99% sure I did not take it off outside of our house. I knew that it was in a funny/weird place and convinced that I would find it one day.  

Well months and months went by with no wedding ring found and we both just succumbed to the fact that it was gone forever and someday in the future we would get a new one. I got so use to not wearing a wedding ring but still looked in weird places as I was cleaning or organizing in hopes of finding it. Nothing. 

Then a couple Saturdays ago, the day before mother's day, Kyle was working in our backyard with this beautiful dirt hill in our yard. Isn't it lovely? 

We have been renovating our house and backyard ever since we moved in four years ago. This hill was covered in grass, but after putting in a sprinkler system and cement curb around our yard, and tearing other things apart, we decided to remove the grass and make this a lovely planting area with bushes and flowers etc... So now we've finally got around to the lovely dirt hill project. 

Kyle was getting the soil ready and sifting out all of the rocks because we have a million rocks in our backyard and soil. (If anyone wants an enormous pile of rocks for anything they are free for whoever comes and gets them. Put it on KSL....just thought I'd throw that in there) As he was sifting he heard a quiet "ding" and looked down and was shocked to see my ring. He said he was so ridiculously giddy about his find and I don't blame him for not wanting to spend a ton of money on another ring.  I was helping at a ward fundraiser so I wasn't around. He didn't tell me until the following day (Mother's day) and gave it to me with a mother's day gift, a spa certificate.

Amazingly there were only a few fixable scratches on the band but the diamond was still in perfect shape. 

The fact that Kyle is 70% deaf in one ear, it is amazing that he heard that little "ding" and looked down in time to see the ring. What are the chances? I guess this marriage is meant to be and Kyle is a keeper, what can I say. He told me the next gift he gives me will be some sort of string that attaches to my ring and then to my body and or wrist. You know, kind of like those binkie holders for babies. Ha ha, very funny. I'm pretty sure I won't be posting another lost and found story like this again. Let's hope not anyway:)

Big Trucks!

We took Weston a few weekends ago to visit the Kennecott Mine. He was loving the
big trucks driving outside and all the little trucks inside the visitor's center.  

Wes was happy to see where daddy works. (For Kennecott)  Although Kyle doesn't work at the actual mine itself, Weston likes to think so. He is always saying that daddy works with the "big trucks", so he was excited to see the place. I think he thinks daddy drives the trucks which is so cool, so we will let him think this for now:)

Owen's Birth Story

Owen William Emmett

7 lbs 11oz, 19.5 in.

My delivery went really well this time around. To my surprise, my doctor offered to induce me anytime after 39 weeks. At first I was hesitant about being induced because I had heard such horror stories of inductions ending in c-sections, taking a long time, and this and that... However I felt really good about it, otherwise I wouldn't have done it. I had a really good experience and it went way better than Weston's delivery. We checked into the hospital Wednesday morning, about 9:30 a.m. I was 39 weeks and 4 days and SO ready to have this baby:) It was weird to have it so planned out, it felt like I was checking into a hotel. I slept really well the night before and was well rested when we arrived. We took Wes to my sister's house the night before so she could watch him during our hospital stay. Weston's delivery was so different because I was exhausted by the time we got to the hospital and was sent home and laboring for days with no sleep before even getting to the hospital. Yay for being induced:)

10:00 a.m. they started the pitosin. It started out a little slow, but the doctor broke my water around 2:00 p.m. and then things went super fast. Got my epidural around 3:00 p.m. Didn't really work so they had to take it out then do it again. (not cool.) Finally started to work and then by 5:30 I was almost dilated to a 9. Started pushing and 5 minutes later out he came!

He weighed and measured the exact same as his older brother. 7 lbs 11 oz and 19.5 in tall.  They must really be brothers. Owen looks very similar to how Weston looked as a baby except lighter colored hair and a little more of it. When Wes came to visit he wasn't super excited about seeing Owen, but he wasn't upset about it either. So far he neither loves him or hates him. His main concern at the hospital was the "bug" in Owen's belly button (umbilical cord) and pushing the buttons to make my bed go up and down.

He was happy about all the cookies and snacks the nurses brought him, watching cartoons, and playing with the stethoscope:)

We are so happy to have Owen in our family.

He had higher levels for jaundice so he had to sleep in the tanning bed for a day or two, but now he's good.

Mother's Day and Weston Update

This mother's day I was really pregnant and uncomfortable but still had a wonderful day. I am so grateful for my mother and the person that she is. She is an amazing example to me and I only hope to be the kind of mother that she is. I love being a mother to my Weston and to now have another little boy to love, Owen. (His birth story a few posts up, coming soon...I'm trying to catch up.)

*Weston is almost 2 and a half! He is so full of personality and is a very happy boy.  

*Talking a lot, using sentences and learning new words everyday. 

 *Is very social and loves to be around his cousins grandmas, grandpas and friends.  

*Loves going to  nursery and is starting to behave himself a lot more in sacrament meeting. Thank goodness:) 

*This boy loves to snack.  He loves his goldfish crackers, fruit snacks, or anything that isn't healthy really:) If it were up to him he would eat snacks all day long and if I let him. 

*Still loves any kind of meat but won't touch fruit. He probably drinks a gallon of water a day and loves his liquids. 

*Still loves sleeping in his crib but will probably be forced into a big boy bed in a few months. 

Runs around a lot pretending to be a dinosaur, roaring at you.  

*His favorite book is "Cars, Trucks, and things that go" and requests to read it nearly every night before bed. 

*Insists on wearing his PJ's all day long if we don't go anywhere. If we do go somewhere he will put up a fight to leave his "jammies" on. 

* His new thing is wanting to have a pillow fight and making a tent with blankets.

*Is excited to be a big brother and knows that baby is coming soon. 

*We love this boy so much.

Easter

We spent Easter weekend in Fillmore this year. Before leaving on Friday we had a little Easter egg and basket hunt at our house for Weston. It took him so long because he had to eat a jelly bean out of every egg he picked up. Maybe next time I'll cut the egg quantity in half:)

 In Fillmore we went to the egg hunt at the park.

 Then came home and played outside for a while. Wes went on a little four-wheeling ride just out back. He could have stayed on that thing all day long if we let him. He was in heaven.

Then we went to the sand hills to roll eggs. Such an interesting tradition. It was my first time.

First things first, making the path. I'm sure Kyle would have made me do this but being 8 months pregnant I got out of it. 

 Weston took a little bit to understand what he was suppose to do, but he thought it was cool.

 He thought it was even cooler to play in a big hole of sand. He kept saying "Big sandbox! Big sandbox!" a million times when we were there.

Back at the house. Weston playing torturing the new batch of kittens. Nothing makes this boy happier.

 It was such a great Easter weekend, we had a blast!

Looks like spring is here. Finally! I remember how fun it was running through the sprinklers as a kid. Weston couldn't get enough of it yesterday when we turned them on for the first time this year.

We've been playing and spending a lot of time outside lately.
 5 more weeks until the baby arrives.
I am still waiting for the "nesting" instinct to kick in.
It's not happening.
 I should probably buy and stock up on diapers for starters. When I was pregnant with Weston at this time I was going crazy organizing, cleaning,  making list of things I need to buy, worrying about getting things ready, starting projects, etc...  It's different this time around.  I just don't have the energy or just end up not caring. I nap when Weston naps.  I've never been a "napper", but it's what I do these days. Playing legos and trains with Wes for an hour or two seems to zap all my energy. And I'm okay with this because I'd rather sit and play with my boy than many other things...like housework for example. I procrastinate it and go on walks with Wes instead. I avoid going to the grocery store or any store for that matter because it's a huge chore. And after reading this I realize I'm making myself sound like quite the "go getter" aren't I? I'm not usually a lazy person but I certainly have been lately.
 When I got pregnant I really wanted three things to happen with Weston before the baby came.
1. Transition to big boy bed.
2. Potty trained.
3. Lose the binkie at bedtime
Yeah...none of these things have happened. I was a major slacker I didn't even attempt any of these transitions. Surprisingly though,  I am not stressed about it. It will be good for Weston to get use to having his brother around for a few months, and then I'll start all those fun things. Or maybe just wait until he's four.....four year olds with diapers and binkies, it's cool right?
