Wes is a super good and very happy baby. He has learned to crawl, speed crawl, and move to anywhere he needs to go, and he climbs up and wants to touch EVERYTHING. On top of all that, he is super curious and has so much energy, especially in the morning hours. Kyle and I sometimes nickname him "the ADD puppy."
So, all normal and great things considering his development, but sitting still during church has become a difficult thing for him. I try and read him books, give him toys, put him down to play with a little toy. Yeah, all that lasts for about two seconds. He is all over the place and such a wiggle worm. He gets frustrated when he sits on my lap still or when I won't let him free to crawl around. I feel like a bad mom when I see other babies his age just chilling so reverently in their car seats or strollers. There is NO way Wes would sit still in that for more than five minutes:) Am I doing something wrong here?
Oh, Relief Society (his usual nap time). Unfortunately, I'm the only sister with a baby in there so I feel like everyone is staring at me when he gets tired and ornery or makes a noise. An older sister commented to me the other Sunday how she wished she had a baby as an excuse to rome the halls during R.S. Nice. Very funny. Well, it would be nice to actually listen to the lesson too.
Hmmm, reading back on this I really do sound like I'm complaining. I don't mean to be. I love my little guy and am so happy to have him. I guess I'm really just wondering what you mommies do to keep your mobile babies still during church? Any suggestions, or is this just all part of the deal, get use to it?

I think we all have to just enjoy where we are at. At 29, I would do anything to not attend church with girls ELEVEN years younger than me and replace that with a noisy little one ... :) Maybe drug the little guy and see how that goes. ;) If I ever do get married and have kids I will come back to you seeking for advice on how the drugs worked. ;) Good luck!
Hmmm. Sounds like Luke and Wes are kindred spirits. Luke doesn't like to sit still either. I think the older they get, the more normal it is to be excited for them to go to nursery. Luke is 'of age' for nursery in a month, but we've been taking him to nursery for the past couple of months...hehe (:
Anyway, my best distractions for Luke during church:
1) FOOD.
2) Give him a little space to walk/move around, but block his escape route with his diaper bag, my legs, Clark, etc.
3) This doesn't work anymore now that he is only napping once a day, but when his naptime used to fall during RS, I would go into the mother's room (or an empty room), turn out the lights so it was pitch black, and wait until he went to sleep. Then I could usually sneak back into RS for most of the lesson.
4) Let the other ladies in RS who can't get enough of him anyway entertain him while I listen to the lesson. (:
Also, as he gets older he will probably enjoy books more. For a long time Luke couldn't sit for a book for more than a few seconds; now he will sit through several at a time. I think that just comes with age.
Good luck!
Whoa. That was a long comment I just made. Might be a record for me!
That is the greatest thing I have ever heard. I am not sure I have actually listened to a sacrament meeting talk for over 5 years now.
Just wait until you have 2.
Norah and Wes really are meant for each other! I have been having the same problems! Just last week we tried sitting in the very front row where the teachers and deacons sit for sacrament, that way she had a little more room to crawl around. That kind of worked. Mostly Logan and I just play tag-team wrestling for 3 hours. But there is a time to every season and I'm just grateful we got so many years to fill up our spiritual "canteen" before we had Norah. Good luck. Let me know if anything works!
Hmmm...must have come from the Emmett side of the family. The Krogh kids were absolute angels in church. I don't remember ever taking them out.
Note to reader: add a lot of sarcasm when reading.
I loved this post because I remember feeling exactly the same way - especially with my first child! He was all over the place. A bit of advice some parents of 9 gave us was - never let their feet touch the ground until they are 3. Honestly it is hard at first but they get used to it and learn to sit on your lap. And I found the less toys the better. Otherwise I was trying to entertain them every minute of church. I would only bring paper and something for them to write with or color, that's it!
Bu most of all, remember that you are in the HARDEST stage right now! It gets sooooo much easier as they get older. HANG IN THERE!!!
